Archimedes ( 287BCE - 212 BCE) was a mathematician who lived in Syracuse on the island of Sicily. His father, Phidias, was an astronomer, so Archimedes continued in the family line.He was the most famous mathematician and inventor in ancient Greece. Archimedes discovered the relation between the surface and volume of a sphere and its circumscribing cylinder, known as Archimedes' principle.
